PARAMEDIC DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAM

Students seeking an Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Care through completion are required to hold a Kentucky Paramedic Certificate. Eastern Kentucky University will award 18 credit hours for this certificate. Credit may be earned through credit by examination (see Credit by Examination in this manual) for the following courses:
 
 

  • CHS 200 Medical Terminology 3 hours
  • EMC 110 Introduction to Emergency Medical Care 6 hours
  • EMC 225 Introduction to Pharmacology 3 hours
  • EMC 240 Introduction to Electrocardiography 3 hours


Students who are currently certified (upon degree completion) may recieve the following waivers:

  • PALS ------ EMC 315
  • PHTLS (or BTLS or TNCC) ------ EMC 382.
  •   ACLS ------ EMC 310 

DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRESSION POLICY

Progression through the emergency medical care degree completion program is dependent upon:
 

  • Maintaining minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale;
  • Attaining a minimum grade of "C" in all emergency medical care courses, BIO 171, and BIO 301;
  • Maintaining evidence of current completion of the American Heart Association basic Cardiac Life Support for Health Care Providers; and
  • Maintaining current Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic certification.
