Emergency Medical Care

Paramedic Degree Completion Program

Students seeking an Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Care throughout their degree completion process are required to hold a Kentucky Paramedic Certificate. Eastern Kentucky University will award 18 credit hours for this certificate. Credit may be earned through credit by examination (see Credit by Examination in this manual) for the following courses:

CHS 200 Medical Terminology: 3 hours
EMC 110 Intro. to Emergency Medical Care: 6 hours
EMC 225 Intro. to Pharmacology: 3 hours
EMC 240 Intro. to Electrocardiography: 3 hours

Degree Completion Progression Policy

Progression through the Emergency Medical Care Degree Completion program is dependent upon:

  1. Maintaining minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  2. Attaining a minimum grade of “C” with a maximum of two completed attempts in all emergency medical care courses, EMC 240, BIO 171, and BIO 310
  3. Maintaining evidence of current completion of the American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support for Health Care Providers
  4. Maintaining current Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Certification
